Causes Of Divorce

According to young (1973), divorce is caused by marital conflict, which is both an index of interpersonal strain and in the social structure that has many moral prescriptions against it. But in spite of the prescriptions, divorce rate continues to rise in a world hide scale. That some countries have exhibited high rate of divorce than others, but on the whole, the rate is on the increase in the last century. 


The statistics of some countries are including for a comprehensive illustration of this on going rise in divorce rate, for some developed societies, figures are available while in developing continent like rica, there is little or nothing to work on. 

            Marill  (1994) stated that childlessness is one of the causes of divorce. He maintained that marriage generally, is mainly for procreation. In the Nigeria context, when a couple gets married, the wife is expected or by people to give birth to children. Couples start getting married if they find themselves incapable of raising children. There is a saying that children are what make family life complete. This situation may result to divorce. 

            Amoto (1983) stated that absent of sexual satisfaction is also cause of divorce. The importance of the sex relations derives from the fact that both couples need each other to live an emotionally satisfied. A satisfactory sex relationship makes the couple interdependent on each other just as unsatisfactory sex relations brings discord.

            Agomuo (200) also indicated that drunkenness may also result in a similar problem. He pointed out that most men come home late as a result of over drunkenness. In such situation the person will not have the energy to give the wife and children the attention they need. Such wives feel neglected and unhappy. This sort of thing leads to divorce.

            Thompson (1998) stated that money is the root of all kinds of evil that controlled desire for money would lead copies to temptation, and just which drown couples in destruction and perdition, and piece themselves through with many sources. He maintain it is to divorce.

            Johnson (1989), pointed out that when a young man is irresponsible and unwilling to work before marriage, the chances are extremely good that he will continue with the some pattern of behaviour after marriage, this pattern of behaviour would led the couple into serious conflict that will led to divorce. He maintained that if you are planning to marry such a person with the expectation of changing him or her, it is very likely that you are in for a sad disappointment regardless of how sincerely one may promise to change after marriage. It is very unwilling that such a person will suddenly after the baby of life time.

            Linda (1989), observed that jealously is another important factors that causes divorce, she suggested that one who demands exclusive devotion and is intolerant of rivalry to care for himself and his society. She maintained that in this choice, the child charts his way to only one way. Contravention of law and order and that child abandoned or neglected as a result of broken marriages lock the quality of social service because the separation of their parents they soon muster hide courage, breath from their control which they enjoyed liberated themselves to advance moral illegitimacy.

            Wilson (1983:198), stated that the problem of a family which is characterized by child neglect have the patterns of living which generate juvenile delinquency. She consider problem like poor physical care of children at home, bad school attendance, disorganized family and concluded that regardless of their area of residence, children from broken homes have a higher tendency of indulging in social vices.

            Ghen and Kuamer (1987), stated that when both patterns are children of divorce the chances of the couples changing are nearly tripped. There is evidence such as parental modeling lower educational attainment and lower age at marriage.
